BIOGRAPHY


Richard Dempsey's acting career has included a wide range of work on the stage, in television, on film, and in musicals.

Richard was born in Hertfordshire, England, of Irish Descent.

 
BBC TV's The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe He made his professional debut at the age of 14 playing Peter in the BBC TV adaptation of THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE and returned to the role a year later in PRINCE CASPIAN.
At the age of 17 he made his stage debut as Jack in the Award Winning Original London Production of INTO THE WOODS at The Phoenix Theatre (Starring Julia McKenzie and Imelda Staunton) giving him the opportunity to work with Stephen Sondheim.

Anthony Newley and Joan Collins After a brief period in Los Angeles that led to him being signed to William Morris Agency, he returned to London to film Noel Coward's TONIGHT AT 8.30 (with Joan Collins and Anthony Newley).
And after a year of appearing in TV Dramas (including SHERLOCK HOLMES - THE LAST VAMPYRE with Jeremy Brett) he was accepted to study acting at THE GUILDHALL SCHOOL OF SPEECH AND DRAMA. Sherlock Holmes - The Lasty Vampyre CD case
Royal Deceipt During this time he filmed (Oscar-winning Gabriel Axel's) THE PRINCE OF JUTLAND (US title-ROYAL DECEIT) playing alongside Christian Bale, Helen Mirren and Tom Wilkinson.
On graduating he went straight into the West End premiere of FAME THE MUSICAL creating the role of Nick. After a year in the show he moved onto play Nicky in the BBC time-travelling drama CRIME TRAVELLER with Sue Johnston. Fame CD
Honk! Returning to musical theatre he created the role of Ugly in Julia McKenzie's production of HONK and revived the role for the Royal National Theatre UK Tour.
He returned to Narnia to play Peter in the Royal Shakespeare Company's acclaimed production of THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE in Stratford Upon Avon and at Sadlers Wells, London. This was followed by an international tour of Richard Jones' production A MIDSUMMER NIGHTS DREAM also for the RSC playing at Stratford, the Barbican, London and completing its run at the Schubert Theatre, New Haven, USA. Peepshow Image Richard went on to join Frantic Assembly on PEEPSHOW at the Lyric Hammersmith - a devised piece based on the music and lyrics of British band Lamb.


Returning to television he appeared as the ill fated British spy Eugene Lasalle in ITV's world war II Drama ISLAND AT WAR.

Out Of This World Poster He played Mercury in the British Premiere of Cole Porter's OUT OF THIS WORLD with Anne Reid at the Chichester Festival Theatre. Also at Chichester he was reunited with award winning (Honk!) authors George Stiles and Anthony Drewe in JUST SO - in which he played the Elephant's Child. This led to him reprising the role on a new recording of JUST SO that also gave him the opportunity to work with Cameron Mackintosh.
He played The White Rabbit in Melly Still's award winning (TMA) ALICE'S ADVENTURES IN WONDERLAND at the Bristol Old Vic and spent seven weeks in Luxor, Aswan and Abu Simbal playing William Beechey in EGYPT for the BBC. Egypt DVD
Peter Warlock

In 2006 Richard appeared as DeClerk in Mark Ravenhill's "Citizenship" at the Royal National Theatre and went on to originate the role of Neil Kellerman in the West End production of Dirty Dancing.

Most recently he has been touring the world with Edward Halls acclaimed all male company "Propeller" where he played Titania In A Midsummer Night's Dream (Tokyo Met and World Tour) and Lorenzo in The Merchant of Venice (BAM New York and World Tour).
